Odometer

This got me thinking where my own odometer is at....49-16yrs=33 years, times an average of 3000miles/year(GR that's 57.5/wk, 8/day) = 99,000miles. Think my warrantee ran out long ago! No jokes about oil changes please.

I'm liking those 39's & learning new things

No TWP's this week. I took lots at the race today but the camera was set to movie mode so I got nice 1-2sec. videos of people followed by several minutes of the inside of my pocket or of my bike wheel.

Lots of run/workout options this week that might change as the week rolls along. So check back.....or check with me.

"First Half" Press

Press Release (February 5, 2011)

The Pacific Road Runners “First Half” Half Marathon returns to Vancouver on February 13 after a forced absence in 2010 due to the Olympics. Starting and finishing at the Roundhouse Community Centre, the route includes a circuit of the Stanley Park seawall. As in previous years, a stellar line-up of some of Western Canada’s best road runners promises fast times and keen competition.

Leading the way is one of Canada’s top marathoners, who boasts a PB for the Half of 1:03:53. Dylan Wykes moved to Vancouver from Ontario last fall, and won the prestigious California International Marathon in Sacramento in December in an impressive 2:12:39. Wykes hopes to improve that time later this year in order to qualify for the London Olympics in 2012, so the event record of 1:04:44 could be in jeopardy.

In form David Jackson and Jeremiah Ziak, who finished 1-2 at the recent Icebreaker 8K, will ensure there will be no easy win. Ziak, from Vancouver, has twice previously finished runner-up. While this will be the first time Jackson has competed in the “First Half”, having moved to Abbotsford from Victoria last year.

Completing the lead pack are likely to be another group of local runners, including Tristan Simpson, Oliver Utting, Jason Loutitt, and Graeme Wilson, all possessing PBs of under 1:10.

The women’s race features three former winners, who have all now entered the masters (40+) ranks, but are still capable of winning again. Coquitlam’s Tina Connelly is the event record holder, running 1:12:47 in 2004, and won again in 2006. Lisa Harvey from Calgary perpetually challenges for victory at the “First Half”, and has been successful on four previous occasions, as well as finishing runner-up five times. Sidney based Lucy Smith is another two-time champion.

They will have to be at their best to beat a crop of younger runners. Burnaby’s Kristina Rody was third when the “First Half” was last contested, and will hope to improve on that placing. World 100K Champion Ellie Greenwood from Banff is more accustomed to longer distances, but may surprise. And Sabrina Wilkie and Shauna Skinner both narrowly missed winning the Icebreaker 8K.

Leading masters on the men’s side will be Mark Bomba, and two-time former winner Norm Tinkham. Other former winners competing include Olympians Art Boileau, Peter Butler, and Carey Nelson.

The race gets underway at 8:30am, with a loop around BC Place, before heading out to Stanley Park. T he race sold out all 2,000 entries last November. Proceeds from the event benefit the Variety Telethon. $40,000 was donated in 2009.
